This week was their school's birthday so they had different dress up days all week long. I have decided that first grade is when they realize that they can actually get embarrassed.

Brylee said it was hard to wear different shoes all day.
Her hair was crazy to us but according to some celeb's on T.V she is pretty stylin. The Vanilla ice look will never be back in to me.

My poor Reagan left the house very excited. Later that night she had prepared a dance for Jim and I she had begged numerous times for us to come up and watch. When we finally made it up there the music started and she began to dance then she stopped and sat on the couch and said she had changed her mind she didn't want to do it any more then she ran to her room. I knew something was wrong. When I went into her room I asked her if something was wrong she said no she just didn't want to do the the dance for us anymore --but why I asked? Then she started to cry and said she was to embarrassed. I said but Reagan you have done a million dances for us why would you be embarrassed now. Then it came out that today at school another girl in her class said her hair looked like she had dog ears and everyone laughed. I tried to explain to her that that means we did a good job at making her hair look crazy and that next time she needs to laugh with them. She seemed to be fine after that.( When Brylee was in first grade a very similar thing happened to her so it must be the age)

They say that when a child starts Kindergarten they have 100% self esteem by the time they graduate from High school they have 3%. I hope by having a loving family at home all my kids will come out with a higher %. She seemed to snap out of it for P. J. & backwards day.

You are a good mom Steph! They both look so cute. Yes it is hard to watch your kids care so much about others opinions. Sounds like you knew just what to say. Good job.
Man, why do kids have to be so stinking mean?! When someone messes with one of my kids my first instinct is to go total "mama bear" on them. I just want to be able to protect them from all of the angst I know is ahead of them!
They look super cute! Nice comeback for the dog ears too. Not sure I would have thought of that.
I think your girl's look perfect for crazy day! I agree with you that it is so hard to see your kids get their feelings hurt or get embarrassed. I think that was awesome that you told her to just laugh along, you're a great mom:)
Thats fun that their school does crazy days like that! I remember Haley told me one day that she had to wear a dress to Kindergarten cuz the "cool" girls said whoever wore a dress the next day.... could play in their "princess" group. It is too bad that they have to deal with that all so soon. Hopefully my kids will have a higher % too!!
