Ever since I can remember I woke up to the smell of
Cinnamon Cake cooking in the oven on Conference weekend.
This is one of our favorite traditions as kids growing up and
so on goes the tradition. Each of us kids now do this for our own
families. We only make it twice a year. So it always seems like
a big treat.
Conference is always the best, it is so good we sometimes wish
church was at home on T.V. every Sunday. We hang out in our
jammies all weekend snuggling on the couch under warm blankets
and take in all the good talks.
I am so glad to have traditions centered around church
related things so that my kids will always remember
listening to the councel of our prophet is also very important.
Here is the recipe for Cinnamon Cake incase anyone wants
to try it! Bake @375 for 25-30 min (I like to use 1/2 white
flour & 1/2 freshly ground wheat flour)
2 1/2 C. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 C. brown sugar
1 C. white sugar
2/3 C. shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon or more
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 C. buttermilk or sour milk
2 eggs, well beaten
Combine flour, sugars, salt, & shortening, mix until crumbly.
Reserve a 1/2 C. to sprinkle over the batter before baking.
To the remaining crumbs add baking powder, soda, spices.
Mix thoroughly, add milk & eggs. Pour into a well greased
cake pan, sprinkle the 1/2 a cup crumbs and more
cinnamon over the top.

Yesterday was Ryan's first experience with making his very own cinnamon cake. It was really quite funny. He is so clueless when it comes to cooking. I think it took him about an hour just to mix the batter. Then he had to lick the bowl.... I'm so glad I get to share this tradition with your family that will now carry on to my own family!
